How to export a GPX from Strava

Every Strava activity can be downloaded as a GPX file — the standard format for GPS routes. It takes about ten seconds on the website, and no third-party apps or account connections are needed.

Your activityExport GPX

strava.com/activities/…Export GPXExport Original
On the activity page the ⋯ sits under the action buttons, on the left. Export GPX is the one you want; Export Original is the trap directly under it.

On the website

  1. Open strava.com and go to the activity you want (your profile → Activities).
  2. On the activity page, click the three-dots (⋯) menu on the left, under the action buttons.
  3. Choose “Export GPX”. The .gpx file lands in your downloads folder.

On your phone

  1. The Strava phone app doesn't offer GPX export directly — open strava.com in your phone's browser instead.
  2. Request the desktop site if needed, open the activity, and use the same ⋯ → “Export GPX”.
  3. Or simply do it later from a laptop — the file is small and downloads in a second.

Good to know

Export GPX vs Export Original — which one?

“Export GPX” always works. “Export Original” returns whatever your watch recorded (often a .fit file), which is not what you want here.

Does a private activity export?

Yes — you're downloading your own data, privacy setting doesn't matter.

Routes vs activities

Both export as GPX. An activity carries your real time and pace (the poster auto-fills them); a planned route has no times — you can type your finish time into the editable stats.
