How to export a GPX from Apple Watch

Apple's own Fitness and Health apps record your route but don't offer a GPX export button — you need one small helper app, once. After that it's two taps per workout.

This is the helper app, not Apple's. Fitness and Health have no export button anywhere, so the menu you are looking for lives in HealthFit or RunGap once it has read your workouts.

On the website

  1. Apple has no web export — the route lives in the Health app on your iPhone, so the export happens there (see the phone steps).
  2. If your watch also syncs to Strava or Komoot, the fastest path is exporting from those instead — see our Strava and Komoot guides.

On your phone

  1. Install a GPX-export helper on your iPhone — HealthFit and RunGap are the two established ones; both read your workouts straight from Apple Health with your permission.
  2. Open the helper, pick the workout, choose Export/Share as GPX.
  3. Save to Files or share the .gpx straight to your browser and upload it here.

Good to know

Why doesn't Apple just export GPX?

Fitness shows your route on a map but Apple only exposes the raw data through HealthKit — which is exactly what the helper apps read. Your data never leaves your phone without your say-so.

Which helper should I pick?

Either works. HealthFit is a small one-time purchase and exports every workout type; RunGap has a free tier that covers occasional exports.
